Scabies is one of the most contagious skin infections. It is caused by a parasite that burrows under the host’s skin, resulting in severe itchiness. In some cases, a rash may also appear.
Being a nocturnal microbe, the itchiness intensifies after sundown and could result in a disturbed sleep pattern. Since the itching is uncontrollable most of the time, scabies could prove to be a very embarrassing condition.
Natural Remedies for scabies:
- It is quite difficult to treat scabies at home as the mite responsible for it is extremely difficult to get rid of. Hence, it is important that you consult a doctor. Usually, the application of a specific ointment is recommended. The number of applications would depend on the severity of the condition. If needed, the doctor may prescribe certain medicines as well.
- Following every application of the ointment, you must make it a point to wash all bed linen and clothes thoroughly with hot water. A few drops of tea tree oil may be added to the water for a better effect.
- After wash, the clothes and linen must be dried in sunlight and ironed well before use. This is a very important step as it helps to kill this stubborn microbe.
- You could also consider opting for the use of an antibiotic soap.
- You could use aloe gel to easy the itching sensation.
- The juice extracted from apricot leaves is also believed to act as a natural ointment for the treatment of scabies.
- You must keep in mind that scabies is highly contagious and does not show up immediately since it has an incubation period. Hence, it is important for all members of the family to undergo treatment together, even if they have not experienced any symptoms as yet. This is the only way to try and avoid a re-infestation.
