Tonsillitis is a condition that could affect anyone at any time. Apart from being a condition that can cause you much discomfort, it could also bring about an intense fever, as the body fights the infection of the tonsils. Most often, the consumption of contaminated water leads to an infection of the tonsils.


In order to cure tonsillitis problems, using home remedies, you may try the following health tips and foods for tonsillitis:
  • Drink purified warm water. The warmth of the water will help to cleanse any infection that is causing you discomfort.
  • Avoid eating foods that are acidic in nature, such as curds or yoghurt. They may cause further irritation of the throat.
  • Fruits and vegetables must be consumed so as to provide the body with the nutritional content required to fight off the infection.
  • Lime juice is one of the best known home remedies for tonsillitis. Lime juice also contains vitamin C that helps the body to fight off minor infections and illnesses.
  • A warm salt water gargle is another effective method of clearing any infection that is causing the discomfort. Similarly, a solution of alum may be used for the purpose of gargling to help fight the infection.
  • Vegetable juices, such as those obtained from beetroot, carrot and cucumber must be taken at regular intervals to alleviate the discomfort being caused by infected tonsils.
  • Milk is another well recommended soothing agent that helps to soothe the throat of any irritation that may be arising out of the infection of the tonsils.
  • A paste of figs and water, when applied around the affected area of the throat, will help to reduce swelling of the tonsils. This will therefore help to alleviate the discomfort caused by the condition.
  • Avoid the consumption of any chilled liquids. Aerated soft drinks should also be avoided as they tend to worsen the condition.
