For most of the people, maintaining a normal weight is synonymous with having good health. However, that is not always true. The body, apart from having a normal Body Mass Index (BMI), needs several essential nutrients that are vital for being in good health.

Researches all over the world have showed that a large percentage of adults world over lack several of the essential nutrients. The lack of these nutrients makes them weak, even if they don’t appear to be so.

Your skin is usually a mirror to your health. If your health is not good, your skin will not be good either, and you will keep suffering from problems like acne. To have good health and skin, start cutting down on excesses and have a healthy, balanced meal. Include all the food groups in your meal, and try not to binge on any one food group alone. Apart from including all the food groups like carbohydrates, proteins, fats, vitamins, and minerals, keep the following in mind.

Calcium. No matter what your age, calcium is always important for health. When you are young, calcium is required to develop the bones. Later in life, calcium is needed to maintain the skeletal structure. Calcium has many functions in the body. Not only is it necessary for the development and maintenance bones, teeth, and nails, but also it helps in maintaining the rhythm of the heart, functioning of the muscles, and formation of the blood clotting platelets. Apart from that, calcium also helps in lowering blood pressure and controlling weight.
Fiber. Dietary fiber helps in the movement of food along the alimentary canal. It helps in having regular bowel movement and also prevents problems of the intestines. A regular inclusion of fiber in your diet will prevent intestinal inflammation and chronic heart conditions. Since fiber is also filling, it helps reduce our appetite and therefore, helps control weight.

Magnesium. Not many know of the importance of magnesium in the diet. Magnesium not only helps make bones stronger but also promotes immunity. Magnesium is essential in maintaining the normal functioning of the heart, muscles, and nerves. Vitamins E and C. Vitamin E is a powerful antioxidant and is usually found in fatty foods. It helps eliminate the cancer causing free radicals in the body. Vitamin C helps in boosting the immune system. It also helps keep the skin healthy by aiding in production of collagen, the connective tissue that keeps the skin, bones, and muscles healthy. Since the body is not capable of storing or manufacturing vitamin C, this vital nutrient has to be consumed everyday.
