The basic function of the heart is to pump blood throughout the body. The heart beats at regular intervals and performs this function. The pumping action of the heart develops pressure which allows blood to flow around the body, delivering nutrients and removing wastes in the body.

A normal heart beat involves two beats that occur almost simultaneously followed by a small period of lull before the next beats. This speeds up during physical exertion and slows down during periods of rest.

There are many medical options one can seek as treatment for irregular heart beat. Natural treatments may be available to stabilize one’s blood pressure and boost general health. These must be followed as best possible. However, the heart, being such a vital organ, cannot be treated lightly using some natural remedy. When an individual experiences noticeable changes in his or her heart rhythm, it is important to visit a doctor immediately. This will allow testing and diagnosis of the condition before it develops into a serious heart issue which may be life threatening. Menopause is a condition which changes the hormonal balance of the woman. This can be a contributing factor to changes in the heart rhythm. Experiencing irregular heart beat at night could also be dangerous and should be reported to the doctor at the earliest.

What are some of the symptoms and causes of irregular heart beats?

An irregular heart beat is also medically known as arrhythmia or dysrhythmia and refers to a heart beat of over 100 beats per minute or fewer than 50 beats per minute. Some people with an irregular heart beat may not notice any symptoms at all while others may experience mild or even severe symptoms. An irregular heart beat can be detected by a doctor during a physical examination while counting your pulse rate or even through an ECG (electrocardiogram). Some of the most common symptoms of irregular heart beat include dizziness or a feeling of lightheadedness, fainting, difficulty in breathing, discomfort or pounding feeling in the chest, fatigue, weakness and palpitations.

Some people may even experience flushing and increased anxiety or panic when the heart beats are irregular. Some of the main causes of irregular heart beat include factors such as electrolyte imbalances in the blood, coronary artery disease, heart attack induced injuries, changes in the heart muscles and the process of healing after a heart surgery. In the case of menopausal women, fluctuations in the estrogen levels can also affect the cardiovascular system and cause irregular heart beats. Other medical conditions like overactive thyroid and hyperventilation can also cause irregular heart beats.

Is there any particular diet one need to follow when experiencing irregular heart beats?

The heart is one of the primary organs of the body that performs the vital function of blood transportation around the body. Blood delivers nutrients and substances to the various parts of the body while removing waste and unnecessary substances. Irregular beating of the heart can cause long term health problems. Patients with this condition must seek medical advice to ensure that their problem is under control.

Diet plays an important role in the health of the body as well as in the health of the heart. Cardiac health is something that cannot be taken lightly. A heart palpitations diet is essentially a simple, healthy, balanced diet. One must not consume any foods that are heavy or difficult to digest. Similarly, one must not consume any junk food that can be tasty but unhealthy. Fresh fruits and vegetables should be added to the diet to ensure that nutrition is provided to the body.

Excessively spicy foods can trigger cardiac events if the heart is weak. These must therefore be avoided in any diet for arrhythmia. One should also consume plenty of small meals rather than 2 or 3 large, heavy meals each day. Water is another important component that should be part of your diet. An effective and well balanced diet will aid in the healthy functioning of your body.

What is a regular heart beat per minute?

50-100 beats is considered a regular heart beat per minute and this can vary depending on the body’s requirement to absorb oxygen and expel carbon dioxide especially during activities like exercise or sleeping. A normal healthy heart beat while a person is resting is generally 60-80 beats per minute. A heart beat below 60 beats per minute is known as bradycardia while a heart beat above 100 beats per minute is known as tachycardia. It is however important to keep in mind that conditioned athletes can also have heart rates much lower than 60 beats per minute. Even individuals who exercise regularly can sometimes have resting heart beats of below 50 beats per minute. In the case of children the regular heart beats per minute tend to vary depending on their age. Infants have a much faster heart rate as compared to toddlers and older children. A healthy heart beat for newborns is generally 70-190 beats per minute while for infants up to 11 months old it is 80-120 beats per minute. Similarly for children between the ages of 1-10 years, 70-130 beats is considered to be the regular heart beat per minute. Any irregularities in the heart rate must be reported to the doctor immediately to avoid complications.
