Chicken pox usually occurs in children. It is a very common and infectious disease. Also, this infection generally occurs in cool climates, when the immune system is weak and one is prone to infections.
The disorder takes about two weeks to get cured. At the onset, you may experience loss of appetite, fever, fatigue, mild headaches, and even weakness; then follows the breakout of rashes and blisters. These rashes, spots, and blisters usually occur along the chest and back. It is very rare when someone has chickenpox rashes on the lower part of their bodies. Most of these blisters form scabs and eventually fall off. However, till the time they remain on the skin, they feel itchy and can cause a lot of discomfort. It is best to let the spots and blisters remain where they are because if you pick or scratch them, they can increase your discomfort and also leave behind scars. If your itch is uncontrollable, apply some calamine lotion on the spots. Also, stop using soap till the time you get cured. It is rare for adults to get this disease; however, if as a child you have not got it, you may get it in your adulthood. Sometimes, the virus of chickenpox may remain in your body in a dormant stage. In a condition of extreme stress or trauma, this virus may become re-activated, causing shingles. The itching causes the maximum discomfort in this condition. Fortunately, there are home remedies that you can use to treat chicken pox. The use of apple cider vinegar has been recommended widely. To get immediate relief from your itching, add a cup of apple cider vinegar to a warm bath and soak in it for a couple of minutes. An oatmeal bath can also serve the purpose well. Cook about 1.5 cups of oatmeal in water. Now fill up a small bag of porous material with this cooked oatmeal and tie it to prevent spill over. Immerse this bag in a warm bath and let the water seep out to make the water appear silken. Soak yourself in this water and let the water run all over your body. Baking soda is also considered an excellent remedy for chicken pox itch. Mix some baking soda in water and give yourself a sponge bath with this water. This will help ease the itching and will keep you from scratching yourself sore.
