Fever blisters are a symptom of herpes, a sexually transmitted condition caused by the herpes simplex virus. The virus causes blisters on the lips as well as the genitals. So what causes fever blisters?
The answer is simple: it is the herpes simplex virus. The sores are extremely painful and itchy. They are also extremely unsightly. Since the herpes disease itself is socially embarrassing due to the sexual nature of its transmission, the sight of these sores can be embarrassing as well. Fever blisters in the mouth, especially around the lips, are also known as cold sores. These sores occur when the herpes virus invades the skin around the mouth of the infected person. The blisters first appear as mere sores, but soon become fluid-filled blisters. Scratching the blisters can cause them to become open sores, which are infective and painful.
There have been many researches on how to get rid of a fever blister. Scientists have attempted to find viable treatments for fever blisters for a long time. However, since the disease herpes is caused by a virus, the treatment is very difficult. There are some remedies for fever blisters that can help in controlling some of the symptoms of the condition. Most of the fever blister treatment methods focus on increasing the period of remission between two consecutive episodes. As the virus burrows deeper into the skin, it hibernates, and a person may experience several symptom free years. Treating fever blisters is only possible with antivirals that suppress the virus for brief periods of time. There are several possible options for fever blister treatment at home, but none of these offer as effective solutions as the antiviral medications.
How to get rid of a fever blister? If you are planning on getting rid of blisters, pinching or removing the blisters may not always the wisest choice. Since the blisters are infective, scratching it can cause more blisters to erupt. Having sexual intercourse with someone, especially when the genital sores are present, can transmit the virus immediately. Since medications cannot help cure herpes, there are many who resort to fever blister treatment with a home remedy. Antibiotics almost never have any positive effect on the condition, and therefore, topical anesthetics are the most commonly used treatments for getting temporary relief from the itching and painful sores.
Vitamins C and E supplements can help strengthen the immunity of the body, reducing the duration of the sores and increasing the period or remission between two consecutive episodes. Zinc supplements have been seen to be another excellent treatment for cold sores. Topical applications containing zinc can speed up the healing of open and cold sores. Your doctor can advise you how many supplements you should take. These supplements are ideal as fever blister treatment for kids. If you are pregnant and have cold sores, you may not be allowed to take antiviral medications. Apart from the pregnancy supplements that you may already be consuming, having more supplements may not be the best idea. Therefore, aloe vera gel, collected freshly from the aloe vera plant, is an ideal fever blister treatment during pregnancy. Use the gel right when the initial sensation of the formation of sores begins. This will stop the sores from sprouting further. Treating fever blisters during pregnancy can be a little difficult and therefore is mostly not attempted.
Treating fever blisters in children can be a little difficult as well, because children may not be kept from scratching the itchy cold sores on their body. Applying a cornstarch paste over the blisters may soothe the blisters and prevent the children from scratching. This is also a great remedy for treating fever blisters in mouth. Tincture of myrrh can be used in treating fever blisters on lips.
