Gum abscess can be due to various reasons, keeping an optimal oral hygiene is a very important criterion. You can try these simple cures at home, however if the swelling or pain increases then consult a dentist.
- Apply ice wrapped in a bag or towel over the affected area, or suck on small ice cubes frequently, this will help in reducing the swelling and will also serve as local anesthetic for the pain.
- Take a glass of lukewarm water add a tsp of salt to it. Take a sip and swish between your teeth and gums. This will have a soothing effect on the abscess and salt will help it to drain it out.
Repeat this several times in a day. - If you have smoking or tobacco chewing habit, I would suggest you to quit it as it contributes to elevate the infectious condition on the gums and often worsen your abscess.
