Health advice on ability to smell
I have not been able to smell for some time - around 12 months. My GP is not concerned and believes it is "probably" a build up of mucus. Any suggestions ?

Find a health care practitioner who will help you identify the cause for your condition. Sometimes, it can be a mild viral infection, but it should resolve within a few weeks. Avoiding dairy may help decrease mucous, if that is the cause.
Some have linked anosmia with the use of zinc nasal sprays. Contrary to this, sometimes both loss of taste and smell can be linked to zinc deficiency. Also, Vitamin A has been shown to help if the nasal passage tissues are compromised. Hydrotherapies to aid sinus elimination may also be helpful. Dr. Karen Benton, Naturopathic Physician
