methods of treating scabies I need a lot of information on this subject. I am 60 yrs old and this is driving me crazy. thank you

  • Wash all clothing, towels, and bed linens in hot water. Do not allow air drying. You should use the dryer.
  • Cut your nails and clean under them thoroughly to remove any mites or eggs that may be present.
  • Vacuum your rugs, furniture, and bedding and throw the vacuum cleaner bag away when finished.
  • Treat all exposed individuals whether obviously infested or not. Incubation time is 6-8 weeks so symptoms may not show up for a while. If you do not treat everyone, it is as if you were never treated.
  • Remember, although you may be disturbed at the thought of bugs, scabies is no reflection on your personal cleanliness.
  • Hot bath and thorough scrubbing followed by new clothes. Old clothes should be disinfected.
  • For mass treatment sulphur ointment or benzyl benzoate emulsion is useful, also is medicated soap.
  • Bedding on clothing must be washed or dry cleaned.
  • Change the bedding.
  • Medication must be kept on the body for at least 36 hours before taking the next hot bath

The very best antidote is to eat a large amount of plain live yoghurt. A large handful of Oats or ground oatmeal thrown into a warm bath will ease all-over itches. Many skin irritations can be caused by the soap you use so try the alternative of making your own with the herbs and essential oils that suit your skin best.Cut an onion in hair. Scoop out the centre of one half and fill the cavity with coarse sea salt. Allow this to dissolve and use the resulting liquid on the wart as often as possible.

Here is an Herbal Soap Recipe

  • 1 large block olive or vegetable oil soap-
  • 25g(1 oz) finely chopped herbs
  • a few drops of essential oil
  • 1 tablespoon finely ground oatmeal
  • Grate the soap into a basin and add the remaining ingredients. Heat gently in a bain-marie until they melt and mix well. Line an egg box with waxed paper and pour the soap into each section. It is better, of course, if you have the correct moulds for soap-making but this is a neat alternative.
  • Purple loosestrife lotion Boil 100g (40z) of dried purple loosestrife for five minutes in 1 litre ( 1.75 pints) of water then leave to stand for 10 minutes. Use as a compress to bring relief to areas of itching skin, whether caused by eczema, impetigo or guilt.

Garlic You can rub your scabies with garlic - of course.
