Question on almonds

Why eat almonds?
( 3 Sep 2007)

Many people are known to consume almonds first thing every morning. Almonds are highly nutritious nuts that are rich in vitamins and minerals. They supply the body with protein and fiber.

They are also a great source of omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids which are beneficial fats. These monounsaturated fats are good for the heart. Almonds can be eaten as a healthy snack and may also be added to foods. You should eat almonds because of the following health benefits;
  • Almonds help to protect you from heart disease as they enhance the strength of the heart muscles and reduce bad cholesterol levels, while at the same time increasing good cholesterol levels.
  • They may help to prevent cancer because of certain nutrients they contain. In cultures where almonds are eaten in plenty, the incidence of cancer and other diseases is very low.
  • Almonds improve metabolic rate and aid in the process of digestion and nutrient absorption.
  • Protein is found in large amounts in almonds. Vegetarians who often have protein deficiencies due to lack of meat in their diet are greatly benefit from eating almonds.
  • Almonds are anti-inflammatory in nature and also help to improve the functioning of the liver. They also help to purify the blood.
  • Almonds are rich in vitamin E and help to improve the health of the skin. Therefore they are often used in skin care products.
  • The potassium in almonds helps to control blood pressure levels. Almonds also contain very little sodium which is good for keeping blood pressure in check.

Why not eat almonds. They are a good source of fiber, protein, essential fatty acids and other nutrients. Furthermore, they tend not to be as allergenic as some other nuts, such as peanuts.
