There are many unanswered questions about the causes and treatment for interstitial cystitis. In short, the condition means simply "inflammation of the bladder lining." The causes of this inflammation can be varied --diet, heredity, environmental stressors, etc. Often, naturopathic physicians focus on eliminating food sensitivities from the diet (see "Anti Inflammatory Food Choices" on my website), supplements which reduce inflammation (fish oil, B-vitamins, etc.), antimicrobial and immune therapies (hydrastis, echinacea, etc.), nature cure therapies (castor oil packs, dry skin brushing, water, etc.) which aid in elimination, and mental/emotional therapies (yoga, exercise, meditation etc.).
