While the presence of blood in the urine can be quite a disturbing site, it does not always indicate any serious medical condition. When a person notices blood in their urine, the condition is known as hematuria. In microscopic hematuria, the urine will appear normal to the naked eye, but when a few medical tests have been run on the urine, there is a noticeable amount of red blood cell composition.
There are a number of conditions that are characterized by some loss of blood along with the urine and successful and accurate diagnosis of the condition would only be possible once all symptoms have been taken into consideration. Since the hematuria is quite possibly caused by a tumor or other problem within the urinary tract, it is advisable to consult a doctor. The condition is rather common and is known to affect about 10% of the country’s entire population at any given time, while about 3% of the same population suffers from gross hemturia. As women have a higher likelihood of urinary tract infection, they are also more likely than men to suffer from hematuria. In most cases, microscopic hematuria indicates damage to the upper urinary tract while a more noticeable amount of blood loss would indicate damage to the lower urinary tract. However, this is more of an observation rather than a rule and is not enough to accurately identify where the damage exists.
Some of the better known causes of hematuria include the presence of kidney stones, cancer of the kidney, prostate or bladder, blood clotting disorders, a blockage in the urinary tract or even chronic diseases like hypertension and diabetes. Since the condition is internal, most of the natural treatment options would be to make sure the patient follows a diet that does not overload any part of the urinary tract. Bitter gourd is a highly recommended ingredient of the patient’s diet, as are green bananas and drumsticks. A high consumption of sugarcane juice and white pumpkin are also known to speed up the recovery process of the damaged organs. Cranberry juice is considered to be extremely effective in dealing with hematuria and helps cure almost any type of infection in the urinary tract. Drinking plenty of water is essential as it will not only help with a urinary tract infection, but will also help break down obstacles, blockages and kidney stones if they happen to be the primary cause of the condition.
