Information on menstrual flow

Most women find that their menstrual cycle keeps to a certain schedule every month. Most of them are also aware of what they can expect from the menstrual periods in terms of discomfort and pain. There are a variety of ways in which you can reduce the pain and discomfort of menstrual periods. However if you are still certain that you would like to stop your periods, then you should consult your physician, who can give you better advice in this matter.

When your menstrual cycle is just starting, the estrogen levels rise in your body. Estrogen contributes towards thickening the uterus walls to prepare for the fertilized egg. After fourteen days one ovary releases an egg. After the process of ovulation the thickened uterus walls are prepared for the eventuality of a fertilized egg. If there is no conception, then the estrogen and progesterone levels go down. This is the signal that the thickened uterus walls can begin to slough off since there is no conception. What you lose in your menstrual cycle is basically the sloughed off tissues.

Birth control pills play the role of the hormones in your body and prevent ovulation. Without any egg there is no possibility of fertilization and a pregnancy. So although the birth control pills do convince your body that there is no need to ovulate, they do not in any way stop menstruation.
