Alternative cures for toe fungus

How to rid of toe fungus?
(30 Aug 2007)

There are several natural home remedies that can be used in the treatment of toe fungus. Most of these are considered to be very effective in preventing the spread of the fungus. This condition is believed to be rather contagious and therefore it is advisable to get rid of it at the earliest.

Vinegar as a home remedy is considered to be of great help in treating toe fungus. Take a basin with warm water mixed with vinegar in equal measure. Remember, whilst you can use any vinegar, apple cider vinegar is more suited to prepare this concoction. The toes must be soaked in the solution for about half an hour. Wipe the feet and toes thoroughly with a dry towel followed by super absorbent paper. Repeat this process twice daily until the symptoms disappear.

Tea tree oil is also useful in treating toe fungus. This oil is considered to be a natural and powerful fungicide and antiseptic agent. Dip a cotton ball in tea tree oil and dab the affected toes with the oil in the morning as well as at night before going to bed, for best results. Continue this until the fungus has been eliminated. Medicated mouth wash is also believed to be a rather unusual, yet effective treatment option for toe fungus. Soaking the affected toes in medicated mouth wash for about half an hour twice daily enables the antiseptic properties of the mouth wash to eliminate the fungus.

One can also use rubbing alcohol which is easily available at most pharmacies to soak the toes. Ensure that the toes have been dried thoroughly using absorbent paper. Repeating this process for about half an hour daily is believed to be effective in treating the symptoms of toe fungus.

Prevention is considered to be the best form of treatment. As far as possible you should avoid using public shower stalls and bathrooms as these are places where the fungus thrives and can easily be transmitted from one individual to another. It is important to remember that you should avoid using nail clippers belonging to someone else for exactly the same reason. Even when you are getting your nails clipped in a salon, ensure that it is disinfected before use. It is a good idea to rotate your shoes regularly and store them in a cool dry place when not in use. It is also advisable that you change your insoles regularly and ensure that they are dry between uses. You can also dust the insides of your shoes with an antifungal powder to prevent the growth of the fungus. Before wearing your shoes, it would be a good idea to use an anti-perspirant spray on your feet especially if they tend to sweat excessively.
