Acne Vulgaris or simply acne is an indication of change in the hormonal balance leading to clogging of the skin pores and finally inflammation at the surface end of the sebaceous glands. Acne Vulgaris is known to commonly affect more than 70 percent adolescents in various forms but the most commonly visible form is blackhead and whiteheads. Other forms include pimple outbreaks, infected abscesses and cysts Excessive oiliness of the skin or seborrhea is a prime cause that leads to acne.

Facial acne is more common among teens than any other form of acne.

Duration of the acne depends on the type of acne. Pimples and abscesses take longer time while blackheads and whiteheads can be removed with simple and safe techniques.

Squeezing pimples can lead to acne scars which may take a longer time to heal and at times such scars may remain on skin. Duration of acne can be reduced with focus on diet and hygiene. This will also help ensure acne does not recur frequently. Other conditions that contribute to the development of acne are heredity, hyperactive sebaceous glands, stress and hormonal disorders. It is also important to note that acne naturally diminishes as age progresses.

Various home remedies, herbal cures and aromatherapy techniques help solve acne problems. Natural remedies are best suited to treat skin disorders. Mild to moderate skin conditions react positively to natural remedies. Such simple home remedies also reduce the duration of such pimples or acne over time. Aromatherapy oils containing farnesol is known to inhibit acne causing bacteria and topical application of such oils can eliminate and reduce the chances of acne growth. Aromatherapy oils containing farnesol include essential oils such as jasmine, myrrh, lavender, palma rosa, ylang ylang and sandalwood essential oil. It is important to mention that before applying such essential oils topically it is required to dilute the essential oils with mild carrier oil.
Food intake and dietary balance is an important aspect in tackling Acne Vulgaris. It is advisable to avoid fried, fatty and sugary foods. Sugar intake is known to spur acne growth overnight. Fruit intake should also be limited considering sugars present in fruits. Intake of Vitamin A and Zinc foods are integral to skin management and foods such as grains, fish, poultry, dairy products and cereals are known to benefit the skin. Drinking eight to ten glasses of water a day are also known to benefit the skin by flushing out toxins.

There are a number of causes for developing Acne Vulgaris. It is difficult to specify duration of acne because one of the main reasons is hormonal changes. Acne usually appears in a specific age group. Read all about Acne and check out our home remedies using Orange Peel, Garlic and more:

Depending on the severity of the acne and what you are using to treat it it can take a week or two. If it is more severe it may take up to 3 months.
