Hip pain is characterized by pain and discomfort around the joint of the hip. The pain may sometimes not be felt exactly on the hip, but instead it may be felt in the centre of the thigh or the groin region. As such, in some cases, pain felt in the hip may be due to a problem of the lower back area.
Hip pain may be caused due to two factors; fractures on the hip and inadequate blood supply to the hip region. Hip fractures are likely to impair normal functioning and activities for a very long period of time. Also, while recovering from a fracture on the hip, many other complications may occur. These are pneumonia and blood clotting in the leg which may even travel upwards to the lungs. Hip fractures generally occur as one ages, as falls become common during that time and also the bones are not as dense as before. Individuals with osteoporosis may also be prone to fractures, due to loss of bone mass.
Insufficient blood flow to the hips is referred to as aseptic necrosis. This can develop due to a prolonged intake of steroids. Those with sickle cell anemia are also susceptible to this condition. Injuries and continuous alcohol consumption also contribute to disruptions in blood supply to the hips. Other factors causing hip pain could be arthritis, which is an inflammation of the joints; tendinitis, which occurs due to strenuous and repeated movements; trochanteric bursitis, which causes pain while climbing and walking; sprain or strain of the muscles, sciatica or lower back pain; and infection.
When hip pain occurs, it is important to avoid any activity or movement that can aggravate the condition. For pain relief, there are many over the counter medications available. It is also essential to ensure that you give the hip region adequate support while sleeping by sleeping on the other side and placing a pillow in between both legs. If a fracture is suspected, it would do good to consult a doctor at the earliest. Exercise helps greatly in alleviating hip problems. Consult a physical therapist for guidance on exercises that are right for you. Alternate hot and cold compresses serve to bring relief from pain. You can use a hot water bottle and an ice compress for this. Massages with mustard oil will also help to relax any strained muscles in the hip area. Taking a hot bath can also do wonders to reduce the discomfort arising from hip pain. Include garlic in your meals as it has anti-inflammatory properties. Avoid caffeine and alcohol and ensure that you consume plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables in your diet.

Hip pain :- Great answer for any pain is lack of right exercise and food habits. Please lie on your abdomen and pull both the legs touching the feet on the hips.If this is difficult then just do with one leg at a time .Likewise do this for 20 times each leg alternately. You can lie down straight and raise legs upwards at rightangle to your body up.Then make big circle by moving the legs round clockwise and anticlockwise. If together is difficult then you can do with with raise of one leg at a time .Remember that do NOT force any position in hurry .Be cool !
