Blood pressure is the force exerted onto the walls of the blood carrying arteries and constitutes one of the most significant vital signs of life. The blood pressure s generated by the heart pumping the blood into the arteries and is regulated by the response of the arteries to the flow of blood. Whenever blood pressure is measured, it is expressed in terms of systolic / diastolic values where the systolic pressure is the value during a contraction of the heart muscle or while it is building up the force with which to send the blood through the arteries.
The diastolic pressure refers to the readings taken at a point of rest of the heart muscle or between heart beats. The regular readings of systolic / diastolic are between 90 and 120 for the systolic values and between 60 and 80 for the diastolic values. When a person suffers from low blood pressure, the flow of oxygen through the arteries and veins is extremely low and is normally unable to provide the right amounts of oxygen to vital organs like the brain, kidneys and heart. This lack of oxygen would result in a lack of performance from the affected organ and further complications could even lead to damage to the organ. Some of the most noticeable symptoms of a person suffering from low blood pressure are weakness, lethargy and dizziness. A number of different factors can lead to the onset of the condition such as malnutrition, emotional instability, slow internal bleeding or even a significant loss of blood.
Drinking lots of water is considered to be the best way to naturally treat the condition as dehydration will reduce the volume of blood – thereby reducing blood pressure. You should also try soaking a few almonds in a bowl of water over the entire course of the night and, in the morning peel them and create a paste to be added to some warm milk before being consumed. Holy basil is widely known to be extremely effective when dealing with low blood pressure. Crush about 15 holy basil leaves and boil them. Once cooled, filter the mixture with the help of a muslin cloth and have the mixture along with a teaspoon of honey on an empty stomach at regular intervals. Foods that are rich in proteins and vitamins B and C are also essential in treating the condition. Strong black coffee will also help considerably with sudden attacks of nausea or fainting.
