Some women tend to spend hours every day making sure that they look their best even on days when their hair sits well and the skin seems to glow. However, one of the most prominent and rather common problems that a number of people face is the occurrence of dark circles. Whenever someone notices the development of dark circles under the eyes, treating it with an assortment of make up aids can give your skin an unnatural color.
It can also irritate the delicate skin below your eyes and cause the skin in this area to darken further. This is the main reason that one should identify the cause and treat the underlying problem to effectively get rid of it. Hereditary is the most common cause of the problem and, if any or both of your parents have noticeable dark circles around their eyes, chances are that you will too. Whenever dark circles are prominent, it is because the skin cells around the eyes become pale, making the blood flowing through these areas under the skin becomes more visible. Most people believe that a lack of sleep contributes to the development of dark circles; however, this is not entirely true. A lack of sleep will cause the skin to become more pale, just as in fatigue and illness, thereby causing the under flowing blood to become more prominent. Exposure to the sun will also increase the prominence of your dark circles while the aging process may bring the occurrence of dark circles with it.
In order to help treat the condition, you should detoxify your body by drinking about 10 glasses of water daily. This will help increase your flow of sweat, diluting it and increasing the amount of toxins that are expelled. You could also try dipping a few cotton balls in some rose water or chilled water and letting them lie over the darker areas for about ten to fifteen minutes. Applying moisturizers that are rich in sources of Vitamin E, vitamin K and sesame will also prove to be particularly beneficial. Cutting fresh figs into two halves and placing them under the eye for about 30 minutes will also reduce the prominence of the dark circles. You may also be surprised with the effectiveness that the age old remedies of simply placing a couple of thin slices of cucumber over the eyes for a period of twenty minutes. Whenever you expose your skin to excessive sunlight, wear a pair of sunglasses to prevent the occurrence of dark circles.

Dark circles are kept at bay by placing freshly cut slices of potato over the eyes for 10 minutes. Fresh cucumber in the grated or sliced form also helps.
