One of my my friend has drug addiction, he is on and off on it presently is sufering from breathlessness & cough?

The most obvious thing here is for your friend to kick his drug addiction as soon as possible. Once he has done this, he needs to detox his body and take supplements to boost his immune system back up to that he is healthy again. Right now, he can take Vitamin E and Vitamin C to help boost his lungs, but what he really needs to do is stop taking drugs.
Until he does this, it won’t matter what he does to deal with his health because the drugs will just destroy it.
After he has gotten off of the drugs, an herbal detox program would be beneficial for removing the toxins from his system and he should seek the help of a natural specialist to create an herbal mix for his specific needs. For some time following his detox, he needs to focus on drinking nothing but clean water and herbal teas as well as taking strong multivitamin and mineral supplements to build his body back up.
Drinking an herbal tea with yarrow in it would be very helpful as well as it supports the immune system and helps clear up lung problems. There may also be an herbal program that a specialist can place him on to help him get off of the drugs, but professional help would be needed to address his specific needs depending on the drugs he is taking.
