Constipation can be caused by an imbalance in digestive flora. Perhaps some neonatal acidophilus would help. Also, if the infant is breastfeeding, the mother can also take acidophilus and fish oil.
Some infants have structural intestinal difficulties. So if other treatments are unsuccessful, the infant should be examined more thoroughly to rule out any structural abnormalities. I suspect the reason for the "soap" in the rectum was to stimulate the nervous system to move the bowels --and it wasn't the soap, per se, it was the "suppository" trigger.

The soap will not hurt anything. is the baby on formula or breast? If formula you should be adding a little corn syrup that helps constipation. and if breast some time what the mom eats can affect the baby.
