Home cures to lower blood pressure

How can I lower my blood pressure naturally?
(23 Aug 2007)

Blood pressure is the force that is applied on the walls of the arteries by the blood flowing through it. It is usually measured by two numbers – the systolic and diastolic pressures. The systolic pressure, always said first and written on the top of a fraction, is the pressure exerted on the artery wall when the heart muscle is contracted.

The number said later and written at the bottom of the fraction is the diastolic pressure and references the force on the arteries at a point when the heart is relaxed and resting between heart beats. The fact that high blood pressure will rarely show any noticeable symptoms while it is still in its developmental phase means that a lot of people suffer from it but are unaware of its presence. However, when the condition is allowed to build up – it could lead to serious long term complications. Some of the more severe complications of the condition include stroke, congestive heart failure, aortic aneurisms and kidney failure. The condition is extremely common and currently affects about 60 million Americans and about one in every four adults above the age of 18.

Some of the more common causes of the condition include chronic kidney diseases, pregnancy, birth control pills, thyroid dysfunction, excessive alcohol intake and tumors of the adrenal gland.

Garlic is considered to be one of the most effective treatments to lower your blood pressure and helps significantly in reducing the spasms of the small arteries while also slowing down the pulse rate and modifying the rhythm of the heart. In addition to this, it relieves symptoms like numbness, dizziness, shortness of breath and the formation of gas within the digestive tract. Boiling a few potatoes with their skin will make sure that the potatoes absorb very little salt – thus making them a good addition to a salt free diet that a person suffering from high blood pressure should adhere to. The magnesium present in potatoes is highly beneficial in treating this condition. Raw vegetable juices made from carrots and spinach should be taken daily whether as a combination or individually in order to help in the reduction of blood pressure. A patient affected by this condition should also follow a well balanced routine and proper diet plan. A lot of rest and at least 8 hours of sleep every day is essential while the patient should also avoid any tension, anger or haste.

Some of the things you can do to lower your blood pressure naturally are:

1. Persons suffering from high blood pressure must ensure at least eight hours of restful sleep. Most important of all, the patient must avoid over straining, worries, tension, anger and haste. He must try to be cheerful and develop a contented mind. The natural treatment may take sometime but it is the safest and best way to get rid of this disease.

2. A prolonged daily bath for an hour or so at 90 o to 95 is also beneficial. Cold compress should be kept on the head during this bath. Other water treatments include hot foot or leg bath for 10 minutes, hot compress over the heart replacing it as the bath cools down.

3. Exercise plays an important role in lowering high blood pressure. Walking is an excellent form of exercise. It helps to relieve tension, builds up the muscles and aids in the circulation of blood. As the blood pressure shows signs of abating, more exercise like bicycling, swimming, jogging should be taken.
