As with most treatments, it is important to treat the cause. A tight piriformis muscle (deep in the buttocks) can cause sciatica. If this is the case, then deep tissue massage and stretching exercises may be helpful. If the cause is a compressed nerve, then chiropractic adjustments may relieve the pressure. Certain homeopathic medicines (eg. hypericum, etc.) and supplements (B-vitamins, etc.) may be helpful in dealing with the symptoms of nerve pain and compression. Find a trained health care practitioner who can diagnose the cause of your symptoms. Dr. Karen Benton, Naturopathic Physician
