Bladder infections or urinary tract infections are caused by bacteria and are more common in women. They develop when bacteria from the anal region enters the bladder through the urethra. It is advisable to treat a bladder infection early in order to prevent it from spreading to the kidneys.
Here are some home remedies for bladder infection.
- Drink plenty of water every day. This helps to increase the urine output and helps to flush the bacteria out of the body. Make sure to drink at least a glass of water every hour.
- Cranberry juice is known to be effective in treating bladder infections. It prevents the bacteria from sticking to the bladder walls. You can drink about two to four glasses of cranberry juice daily until the symptoms go away.
- Maintain a substantial intake of vitamin C as it increases the acidity of the urine and thus creates an unsuitable environment for the bacteria. Intake of vitamin C may cause diarrhea in some people and if this occurs, it is better to reduce the dosage.
- Bladder infections commonly result in pain and discomfort in the lower abdomen, lower back and sides of the body. To alleviate this pain, place a hot compress such as a heating pad or a hot water bottle over the area.
- Avoid consuming caffeinated beverages, carbonated drinks and alcohol as these can cause further irritation to the bladder.
- Maintain proper hygiene to prevent worsening of the infection. Avoid wearing tight undergarments as this can promote bacterial growth.
Urinary infections could get worse in case timely and proper care is not taken. It is therefore important to check with the doctor if you don’t feel better in a couple of days.

Drink 6 pints of water daily that has lime or fresh lemon juice in it. Eat live yogurt to ease the symptoms of infection and inflammation. Eat raw garlic with a slice of wheat break daily.
