(20 Aug 2007)

There are different kinds of bladder infections with urinary tract infection or UTI being the most common. A UTI is usually a bacterial infection where bacteria enter the body through the bladder and cause a urinary tract infection.

Different over the counter drugs could be used to treat this form of bladder infection but the most effective cures are home remedies for bladder infections.

UTI’s can be uncomfortable but rarely dangerous and can be treated with some simple techniques. If you are suffering from the condition the best treatment option is to drink lots of water daily. This could be at least 8-10 glasses on a daily basis. Keeping hydrated is an important part of home remedies for bladder infection. You can also add some vitamin C tablets to the water. Drinking cranberry juice has also been known to help. You can even try cranberry supplements. Increasing your intake of yogurt can help control and reduce the further incidence of it. If you are a woman suffering from the infection and the infection is chronic, you could either consume fresh yogurt or apply some yogurt to the vagina. Once you tend to get a UTI, you become susceptible to it so you should take proper precaution so that you do not get it again. If after 24 hours, your pain continues to persist, you should seek medical help.

What causes bladder infections in females?

Bladder infections are quite common in women, especially urinary tract infections. There are different forms of bacteria responsible for this infection but the most common bacteria that causes it is Escherichia coli strain of bacteria. This bacteria is responsible for about 80 per cent of the infections. Women are most susceptible to UTI due to a shorter urinary tract. There are many causes of bladder infections in women. Primary cause is inadequate hygiene. Not cleaning properly after a bowel movement or lack of cleanliness while using public utilities can cause bacterial infection. Sometimes lack of hygiene after sexual intercourse can also increase the chances of getting urinary tract infections in women. If you have had a UTI before, you stand a higher chance of getting a repeated UTI.

Weak bladder muscles can also lead to urinary tract infections. Weak bladder walls prevent you from emptying your bladder completely and this encourages the bacteria to breed in the bladder. You should drink adequate amounts of water, especially if you have had a bladder infection. Drinking lots of water through the day can also act as a cure, along with a preventive mechanism. Patients with chronic diseases like diabetes or weakened immune systems like those in cancer are also susceptible to urinary tract infections.

What are the symptoms of bladder infection during pregnancy?

Bladder problems during pregnancy are common as with the growth of the uterus the pressure on most of the other organs inside the body increases. During pregnancy the increased pressure on the bladder can cause problems with the elasticity of the bladder. This could lead to incomplete emptying of the bladder and thus increase the chance of infection setting in. Frequent urination is also a common symptom faced during pregnancies as the baby pushes against the bladder.

Suffering from UTI during pregnancy is also a common condition. In fact for women, urinary tract infections are very common during pregnancy. Increased hormone levels of progesterone relax the urinary tract. This encourages urine to stay inside making it a breeding ground for bacteria. If not tracked, the infection can become cystitis and will also show other signs like burning sensation and cloudy urine. It is important to keep track of this otherwise the baby can be born with kidney problems that could be difficult to treat later. UTI can also result in a smaller baby or a preterm birth. Drink plenty of water and take some vitamin C tablets. Don’t wear tight fitting clothes, especially tight-fitting underwear. Take additional precaution during your pregnancy avoid the occurrence of UTI.
