Puffiness of eyes can be due to hangovers, hormonal fluctuations, hypothyroidism, fluid imbalances, an allergy or dermatitis (if it is accompanied with redness or itchiness) or it can also be due to heredity reasons.
- Splash your face with cold water; this will help improve blood circulation in this region and to drain excess fluid.
- Place cold moist tea bags on the outer side of your eyelids, the tannins in tea will help to reduce the puffiness and swelling.
- Cold thin strips of cucumber or potato when placed under the eyes will also help reduce the swelling.
- For better blood circulation under the eyes lightly tap the upper and lower eyelids with your finger tips.
- If the puffiness is specially only when you wake up in the morning then place some ice cubes in the plastic bag and use them as compress to reduce the swelling instantly.
- Drink enough water and get adequate sleep at regular intervals.
If puffiness is accompanied by some discharge or pain consult a specialist (ophthalmologist) to treat the problem.
