I'm 23 years old. I have cracks on my heel. Earlier i had only one mark, but over the past 2-3 months, the cracks have grown; why?

People have a tendency to make sure that they look their best at all times. However, very often, this attention to detail borders on being vain as we tend to take special care only of the parts of the body that are going to be noticed the most. While skin is regularly moisturized, fairness creams are used in abundance, hair removal is seen as a priority and hairstyling will add to ones character, we tend to ignore the soles of the feet.

This part of the body takes on a lot of stress as a result of the entire weight of the body being exerted on it for long periods of the day. As a result of their constant deprivation of any kind of foot care, a number of people suffer from cracked heels, a condition that can be quite painful, very upsetting and even unattractive. It can also lead to a change in the sense of dressing as it may completely prevent somebody who is conscious of the condition from wearing sandals.

Cracked heals are characterized by thickening and fissuring of the skin on the heel of the foot and may also be accompanied by bleeding. The cracks will usually be triggered by excessively dry skin in the region and the amount of pain caused could change depending on a number of factors including the weather. People have been known to find the cracks a little more tender and painful during the winter months or when living in dry climates. It is always better to treat the condition when you first notice it as, once the condition starts to worsen, it becomes much harder to treat. People that are constantly on their feet or elderly are more likely to suffer from cracked heels as a result of the constant wear and tear of the skin on those layers over the course of many years. Some medical conditions could also trigger the cracking of skin on the heels. Some examples of these conditions include eczema, psoriasis, diabetes and thyroid disease. The most common symptoms of dry, cracked heels include red or flaky patches surrounding the affected area, itchiness and some loss of blood.

Treating your heels with some natural foot care remedies will significantly help improve the condition. You should try applying the pulp of a ripe banana on the cracked area of the heel and leave it on for about 10 minutes before rinsing it clean. Regularly soaking your heel in some lemon juice is also likely to be extremely beneficial. Scrub your feet lightly with a foot scrubber or a pumice stone in order to get rid of the dead skin. Then smear your soles with petroleum jelly and slowly massage it into your skin. Put on a pair of woolen socks and keep them on for at least 2 to 3 hours before wiping your feet clean with a moist cloth that has been dipped in hot water and wrung well.
