For any activity your body performs like eating, drinking, walking, sleeping, it requires energy. Natural metabolism is the energy your body burns to maintain its vital functions. Each person’s metabolism varies from other as it depends entirely on body composition.

For example a person who is more muscular would have a higher rate of metabolism than the other counterpart as muscle uses more energy than fat. Thus a simple way of increasing your metabolism would be to start exercising like weight lifts or aerobic exercises to increase your muscle mass and decrease your fat percentage.

As far as diet goes, never follow fad diets or starve yourself, as our body senses this condition as a starving state and your metabolism slows down.

You can include low fat foods and high protein foods in your diet with lots of fresh fruit, vegetables and cereals. Protein can be incorporated in the form of eggs, fish, lean meats, low fat poultry, sprouts and pulses. Calcium is of utmost important; as besides giving strong bones it also helps to speed up your metabolism, include low-fat milk and milk products in the diet.
Thus ideally a combination of a healthy diet and exercise is a great way to increase your natural metabolism of the body.
