Healing for Corns

Effective remedy for corns
(26 Oct 2010)

A callus is basically formed by thickened and dead layers of skin that tend to appear at certain pressure points on the body where the bones beneath the skin do not have sufficient amount of padding in the form of tissue or fat. Corns tend to be smaller than a callus and they usually have a hard center. Corns are most commonly observed on the sides and the tops of one’s toes.

One of the causes of corns and calluses is the accumulation of blood towards an irritated area to promote growth of new skin cells which in turn become corns or calluses. Some other causes of corns and calluses are constant friction or pressure on account of wearing ill fitting shoes or even due to constantly performing the same action or performing manual labor such as weight lifting or gardening.

A treatment for corns which can be administered at home is to soak one’s feet in some warm water to which Epsom salts have been added, for at least 20 minutes. This treatment remedy for calluses will help in softening the corns and the calluses and may even provide one relief from the pain by decreasing the inflammation and the swelling of the skin. Another remedy that is used for healing for corns includes applying some castor oil to the corns or the calluses just before going to bed. This helps in softening the corn or the callus and thereby makes them fall off eventually on their own. Another effective remedy for calluses and corns  is to soak ones feet in some plain warm water for around 15 minutes and when the corns or the calluses have softened sufficiently, one should gently rub a pumice stone over the corn or the callus to soften and smoothen them as much as possible. An effective remedy for corns is to also wear shoes that are more functional than fashionable. In fact it is always recommended to purchase rounded toes shoes rather than pointed toes shoes. Another effective remedy for calluses and corns is to apply half a teaspoon of the juice of a raw papaya at least three times a day. The juice of a raw papaya tends to act as an irritant and hence helps in the corn or the callus softening and falling off eventually. Another remedy for calluses or corns is to prepare a paste of three to four liquorice sticks along with some mustard oil or sesame oil and then rub this paste on the hardened skin just before going to bed.
