Stomach Bloating Cures

Relief from bloating
(19 Aug 2010)

Bloating and gas are a very common problem for millions of people. Bloating is directly related to the food and drink that enters the body. It has to do with the life style of the person and his or her eating habits.

Bloating refers to an uncomfortable stomach due to the accumulation of air, fluids, or tissue. Sometimes, the stomach is visibly bloated; sometimes, it is just a feeling of tightness and discomfort in the stomach. Foods that are digested later on in the digestive process and in the large intestine are the foods that cause bloating.

Causes of bloating
  • Obesity is a primary cause of bloating. Obesity causes the excess food to digest slowly, therefore causing bloating and gas.
  • Certain drugs like Iron capsules cause bloating.
  • Bloating occurs when too much air is swallowed. This could either be due to eating too fast or eating too much. It could also occur if a person has a habit of keeping the lips parted.
  • Bloating can also occur due to bacteria that accumulate on the lining of the intestines. This bacterium is called Intestinal bacteria and is released by food that is rich in starch, sugar or cellulose.
Relief from bloating
  • Check your diet. A diet that is laden with fatty and starchy food will definitely cause bloating. Vegetables such as cabbage, beans or broccoli cause bloating. Very sweet foods cause gas and bloating. A low fiber diet causes bloating.
  • Change your diet patterns to include fiber rich foods that will get digested easily and earlier on in the digestive cycle. This habit will bring relief from bloating.
  • Protein rich foods are good for a diet that brings relief from bloating. But care must be taken that the kind of protein that is eaten must not be high in fat content. White meat is a better option than red meat.
  • Try to see if you are lactose intolerant. This simple means that you feel the bloating sensations after you have eaten or drank milk or milk products. If you do, it might be because your body is not able to process the enzymes that are present in dairy products. Avoid such foods to bring relief from bloating.
  • Exercise regularly. This is the best and most affective way to keep away from digestive problems. Walking or jogging daily for at least 15 minutes is the best way to bring relief from bloating.
