Acid reflux is a condition characterized by a severe burning sensation in the chest and is caused when certain digestive juices make their way up to the esophagus from the stomach. These juices are said to consist of hydrochloric acid and if this condition is not treated in time, it could cause considerable damage to the esophagus lining which is very delicate. This is so because the stomach has a lining that protects it from the acid whereas the esophagus has no such lining.
The causes of suffering from acid reflux are many and one of them is over eating. Excess amount of food in your stomach could cause the stomach acids to elevate which in turn causes heartburn. Other factors such as stress, drinking a lot of alcohol and aerated drinks, smoking, eating a lot of spicy and oily food and so on lead to acid reflux. The symptoms of acid reflux primarily include a lot of pain in the chest, problems related to breathing, wheezing, dry cough, a feeling of tightness in the throat and so on.
There are a lot of herbs that enable to treat heartburn and thus, they should be included in your everyday diet. Ginger root is one of them and is very helpful to provide relief from acid reflux as it is said to absorb the acid in the stomach. Initially, you can consume them in the form of capsules preferably after a meal. Also, there are certain herbs such as fennel and catnip that have a lot of fragrance and help to provide relief from acid reflux. A certain class of herbs such as bitters are also very good for this purpose and some of the common bitters include wormwood, goldenseal and gentian root. You can consume these in the form of a capsule or simply have the juice of it after you finish eating a meal. This is also known to provide relief from acid reflux. Apart from these herbs, there are a lot of other ingredients from your kitchen that aid to treat acid reflux and one of them is apple cider vinegar. You should mix a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar along with half a glass of water and drink it while you are eating. A lot of people may wonder if this would provide relief from acid reflux because you are having an acid in order to cure an acid problem but this remedy works wonders. You need to avoid drinking coffee and tea as it will aggravate your condition.
