Gout has been a stifling disease since ancient times. It has been ironically called the ‘king of diseases’. It is a type of arthritis which causes severe pain.

There has been a lot of research on this disease and researchers have found effective ways to treat the disease as well as ease the pain.

Causes of Gout
The main cause of gout is the excess accumulation of Uric acid in the body. Uric acid crystallizes between the joints and causes pain and stiffness. The accumulation of Uric acid could be due to several reasons such as-

  • Insufficient elimination of Uric acid through the urine.
  • The kidneys not flushing away the toxins completely.
  • When the body increases the production of Uric acid above the normal level.
  • When a person eats food with too much purine content. Purines are present in all body tissues and when there is a breakup of purines in the body, the Uric acid level goes up.

Gout affects the joints of the feet and hands. In the feet it usually begins with the joints of the big toe and moves to the ankles, heels, insteps, and knees. In the hands it affects the wrists, fingers and elbows.
