Calluses can be painful and even more so when you have to touch them, but it is very important that you keep their size under control. What you need to do is first wash your feet with soap, and then soak them in a basin of warm water and mild dish washing liquid for approximately twenty minutes. After this time has passed, dry your feet thoroughly and rub cooking oil over them until moist.

Then you need to sand the callus using either fine sandpaper or a pumice stone. Do not sand too much, just softly sand the callus for a minute or two.

Make sure your shoes fit you properly.

You shoes are unlikely to have caused the callus, but will no doubt damage the area further if the shoe you are wearing is uncomfortable. There is one important thing to remember in this situation, never try and remove the callus yourself, or even try and “trim” it down. Only a podiatrist should remove and touch the callus with sharp objects. Trying to do it yourself could result in serious infection or something worse. You may maintain the callus by sanding it lightly, but the correct thing for you to do would be to go to your doctor or podiatrist and seek advice from them.
