Weight Gain Advice

Maintaining an ideal body weight is essential for a healthy lifestyle. Gaining weight can occur due to hereditary, faulty foods, hormonal imbalance, lack of exercise, consumption of rich and heavy foods, addiction towards junk foods and cola drinks. Increasing weight can affect the morale of the person leading to depression and frustration.

Advices that are useful for reducing weight are:

  • Avoid too much of refined carbohydrates and simple sugar. Cut down the intake of biscuits, sweets, cakes, soft drinks. Consume more of complex carbohydrates like pulses, whole grain cereals, fruits and vegetables that are rich in fibre and can enhance the bulk of the food.

  • Do not change your diet drastically from the normal diet. By bringing modification in our every day diet, we can maintain our health without causing any drastic changes. Consume brown bread instead of white bread, have more of baked and steamed foods rather than fried foods. For e.g.: Instead of shallow frying cutlets, you can bake them. Cream biscuits can be substituted by fibre biscuits. Have more of fresh fruit juice instead of milkshakes.
  •  Do not make haste in losing weight. Make a gradual procedure. Cut down on your food consumption gradually. Make it an enjoyable experience. Do not tax your body by doing heavy exercises or crash diets as it becomes difficult to maintain.
  • Do not make a monotonous diet pattern with very little variety of foods as it can be boring. Plenty of raw foods should be kept in hand to keep hunger away.
  • Whenever you desire to have a snack, prepare one with raw vegetables that are in season. These can increase the bulk, fibre content and can provide vitamins and minerals.
  • A decrease in intake along with increase in energy output will be effective in the long run rather than decreasing intake or increasing energy output alone. General exercises like walking briskly for one hour, climbing stairs, skipping; jogging for 30 minutes will help in expending calories faster in a dieting individual.

Weight Gain Advice

Even though you may not eat a lot, if the food you consume is high in calories then putting on weight is a direct result. The best way to maintain your weight without putting on excess of it is to burn the same amount of calories that you consume. A good way to go about it is to count the amount of calories that you consume during a day, by keeping a log of what you eat and how many calories each food item contains. After you have done this, reduce your calorie consumption by about five hundred calories. Follow this up with moderate exercise, such as walking or jogging everyday. This helps burn the excess fat and build up a stronger metabolism. A healthy metabolism is needed to burn excess fat and assimilate protein to build muscle.

To avoid unnecessary weight gain, eat a diet that is rich in raw fruits and vegetables. These foods provide you with all the necessary nutrients while avoiding the excess build up of calories. Avoid eating junk food and oily foods as they are high in saturated fats. These fats are difficult to break down and are also one of the main causes of obesity.
