Hair loss usually starts off with you noticing a few strands of hairs on the floor after you have combed through your hair. But an increased view of your scalp each time you look into a mirror is probably a sign of things, that something is not right.
However, before you hit the panic button, understanding a few important facts about hair growth can help quell the situation.
Every individual's hair moves through a cycle or series of growth and rest. The line of each cycle changes from individual to individual. But on the whole, the growth stage of scalp hair, referred to as anagen, distinctively lasts anywhere between two to three years.
During this period, hair grows about 1 cm (which is less than half an inch) every month.
The resting stage is known as telogen. This stage typically endures for approximately three to four months. Towards the end of the resting stage or telogen, hair strands start to fall out and new ones begin to develop in its place. Once hair falls off, the growth phase starts again.
Almost every normal individual sheds somewhere around 50 to 100 hairs every day. Considering that there are more than 100,000 hairs in the scalp, the small amount of shedding should not result in detectable thinning out of the scalp hair.
Thinning in small stages is a normal part of aging. The problem arises when the rate of hair loss surpasses the rate of new growth, thus leading to baldness. It is also a matter of concern if the new hair is thinner than the hair shed or hair starts to fall out in patches.
Excessive hair loss may be due to a hereditary pattern, specific medications or an implicit medical disorder. Most people prefer medications or surgical operations to treat hair loss. However, it is important to talk with your doctor about the cause of and best possible treatments for your hair loss before following up on any of these treatment choices.
Consult with your doctor if you happen to observe abrupt or patchy hair loss or more than usual hair loss when disentangling or rinsing your hair. Sudden hair loss is usually a signal of an underlying medical disorder that calls for immediate medical attention and treatment.
Unfortunately, there is no single cure currently available in the medical field for curing permanent hair loss or baldness. However, there are a number of medical treatments that can help in slowing down the rate of hair loss or cover hair loss in a particular area.

Advice on hair loss Hair loss is a normal process of the body, but when this hair loss increases in amount and regularity, it does become a cause for concern. Although the process cannot be stopped completely, it can be controlled to a certain extent, by taking steps to change your diet and hygiene habits.
Avoiding stress and anxiety is an important step in reducing hair loss. In addition, if your body does not get the right amount of proteins, vitamins and minerals, it cannot sustain the growth of hair. Thus it is important that you eat a well balanced, healthy diet. Although sometimes overlooked, keeping your hair clean also prevents a large amount of hair loss, as an unclean scalp weakens the hair roots by clogging the pores with dirt that gets collected over time. Regular brushing and washing of your hair not only keeps it looking good but prevents excess falling of hair.
The various home remedies that you can use are the application of coconut oil that is mixed with the juice of a lemon. Massage your scalp all over for a couple of minutes during the day. This helps stimulate the flow of blood to the hair follicles, which helps the re-growth process. Aloe vera has also been used by many people to prevent hair loss, as the aloe helps balance the pH level of the scalp and also clean the pores. A preparation of coconut milk with a small amount of wheatgerm oil and aloe vera gel works well.
