Anti Aging Serums

Skin care anti aging
(20 Jul 2010)

A recent study conducted by a prestigious dermatological body revealed that premature ageing of the skin is closely related to different everyday factors. These include things like heavy smoking, obesity, and lack of sunscreen as also prior presence of skin cancer due to sun damage resulting in aging of skin on the face.

Research further revealed that skin displays two distinct types of ageing.

The aging of the skin that takes place due to inherited genes is referred to as intrinsic or internal aging. The skin aging that occurs due to external factors such as environmental or sun damage, or exposure to sun's rays is known as extrinsic  or external aging.

While it is not possible to halt or even decelerate the intrinsic skin aging process, it is possible to avoid signs of premature aging by defending your skin from the harsh rays of the sun. You could do this through the use of sunscreen or external clothing such as hats or hooded tees, discontinuing smoking, and avoiding facial exercises. Although some forms of alternate therapy suggest the use of facial exercises to prevent skin aging, research indicates that facial exercises do just the opposite. They cause the skin to stretch and sag.

Almost every dermatologist suggests the use of comprehensive skin protection through the use of sunscreens or sun blocks to avoid premature skin aging caused by external factors. Some important tips for skin care (anti-aging) include:

  • Preventing intentional tanning, including use of indoor / artificial tanning substances.
  • Staying away from the glare of the sun's rays from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., when the sun’s rays are believed to be at its strongest.
  • Putting on preventive apparel, such as wide-cut hats and long sleeved clothing, when out of doors during the day.
  • Using sunscreen all-year round. An effective sunscreen should be able to filter out ultraviolet light and must also protect the skin from sunburn, and so must be broad spectrum (offering UVA as well as UVB protection) with a Sun Protection Factor (SPF) of 25 or higher. Dermatologists recommend that a sun block or sunscreen must be applied 15 minutes to all exposed skin prior to stepping outdoors.

If you are troubled by perceptible signs of skin aging, there are a number of treatments available that could prevent further damage. Dermatological options such as injectable fillers, Botox and so on are extremely popular with people who live a busy lifestyle and are not looking at longer duration of treatments.

There is a huge amount of scientific research being conducted by private and government bodies in the field of anti-aging as new and promising treatment options continue to be investigated and studied.
