Hypertension or high blood pressure is a serious ailment that is becoming increasingly common these days, especially amongst people who have a hectic, stressful lifestyle. High blood pressure hardens the walls of blood vessels and makes it difficult for the heart to pump blood into the system, which may ultimately lead to cardiac arrest. Mostly, obesity, dietary imbalances, lack of physical exercise, stress and insufficient sleep are responsible for high blood pressure.
Hypertension is also hereditary to a great extent.
The most effective way of keeping your blood pressure in control is to eat a healthy diet and avoid a sedentary lifestyle. Cut down on your consumption of alcohol and stop smoking altogether. Also, avoid foodstuff rich in saturated fats, such as deep-fried snacks, chocolates and ice-creams, butter, red meats, carbonated beverages and artificially sweetened drinks. Substitute these with fresh fruits and green, leafy vegetables, as these are a rich source of several essential vitamins and minerals that keep the blood vessels in good shape and prevent their blockage. Every morning, eat fruits like oranges, watermelons, apples, pears and mangoes. Eating a ripe papaya on an empty stomach every morning is also known to keep blood pressure down. You may also make a mixture of spinach, carrot and cucumber juice together by using a blender and drink a glass of this every morning at breakfast to treat hypertension. Another simple way of treating high blood pressure is to cook food after marinating it in some vinegar. Vinegar is a natural source of vitamins A, B, C and E which help keep the heart and the blood vessels in good working condition. You may also use vinegar as part of a dressing in vegetable salads or simply consume a spoonful of apple cider vinegar thrice a day. Alternatively, use olive oil to cook food or simply as a flavoring agent in food, as this keeps blood pressure under control. Chewing a few cloves of raw garlic before or during every meal is also believed to regulate the heartbeat and prevent the clogging of arteries, thereby keeping a check on blood pressure. You should also eat lots of celery, either raw or as garnishing on other cooked food, as this contains a natural compound that counterbalances stress hormones that are responsible for raising blood pressure. For another remedy, grind together equal portions of sugar, cumin seeds and fennel seeds and mix this powder in a glass of water. Drink this solution twice a day to lower high blood pressure.
