Home remedies for weight loss

Is there any home remedies that can help to slim down thighs and arms quickly?
(27 Jul 2007)

It is commonly observed that weight gain does not occur uniformly all over the body. Certain parts of the body tend to accumulate more fat deposits than others. Usually, people put on weight around the waist, belly, hips, thighs, buttocks and underarms.

Women are especially susceptible to this kind of irregular weight gain, especially during pregnancy. Also, as one ages, elastin and collagen, the tissues which hold the skin cells tightly together, are produced more slowly by the body, which makes even the normal layers of fat under the skin sag and cause the underarms and thighs to look flabby. In such cases, exercise is more effective than diet in losing excess weight.

There are a few simple exercises that you may follow to solve this problem. For toning up the muscles of your triceps you should sit straight on the floor, which your knees folded and your feet lying flat on the ground. Now place your palms beside your hips, keeping your fingers pointed forwards and bend backwards in this position. Make sure that your arms bear the weight of your upper body while you stretch yourself backwards. Now bend forwards in the same way. Repeat this process at least 10 times in one sitting. Alternatively, you may practice a simple exercise using dumbbells. Choose a dumbbell of a weight that you are comfortable with and hold it in your right hand and support your right elbow with your left arm, keeping your arm stretched out straight while sitting upright on a bench. Now slowly fold your right arm till it touches your right shoulder. Maintain this position for a few seconds and then stretch out your arm again to its original position. Repeat this movement for 10-15 times, and then switch over to your left arm. Both these exercises are useful in toning up the muscles of your arms and shedding excess flab from them. To make your thighs look less flabby, lie straight on the floor on one side of your body, so that your legs are one above the other. Support your head with the palm of the hand that is in contact with the floor. Now gently lift the opposite leg in the air, keeping it straight all the while and hold it as high in the air as you can for a few seconds, before returning to your original position. Repeat this process 5 times and then turn over and do the same with the other leg too.

Home remedies for weight loss

A combination of healthy diet and sustained exercise works well to attain weight loss. Healthy diet can include plentiful ingestion of healthy fluids like water, lemon water, fruit juices and vegetable juices. Drink a lot of warm water through the day and add fresh lemon juice to it as often as you like. Avoid sodas, colas and alcoholic beverages like beer, which contain empty calories and lead to weight gain.

Include certain healthy spices and herbs to your diet in moderation. These include cayenne pepper, gingerroot, cumin, black pepper, and mustard seeds. Chewing on thin slices of gingerroot or including it in your food in a grated form can also help.
Avoid eating fast food, which is high in polyunsaturated fats but empty of any real nutritive value, thus leading you to overeat even while you feel nauseatingly full. Substitute the quarterpounder with a healthy tuna salad or grilled chicken sandwich with lots of mixed greens. Drink soups made from spinach, mixed vegetables, lentils, and other such protein-rich substitutes.

Supplement this healthy eating with a regular pattern of exercise. This need not be something that is overly harsh on the body. Instead find something that makes you happy while making you work every part of your body. Swimming, brisk walking, hiking, trekking, games of basketball with friends, all qualify as exercise if done regularly.
