Cure for fish bone stuck in throat

Fish bone getting stuck in the throat is a common occurrence for those having sea foods. This may lead to difficulty in breathing and speaking and pain in the base of the throat. The patient may find it difficult to swallow food particles and their face will turn bluish as a result of lack of oxygen. They may feel like vomiting and there may be pain in the neck, abdomen and chest.

Certain ways of removing fish bone stuck in the throat are:

  • If the bone is visible pull the tongue forward and remove the trapped bone with your hand.
  • Drink plenty of water and swallow raw bread. Wait for 1 hour to remove the obstruction.
  • Swallow boiled rice. The rice will stick to the bone and the weight will increase as a result of which the ball will move from the throat to the stomach.
  • Mix clematis root with vinegar and brown sugar. Sip this while hot. This will remove any throat obstructions.
  • To prevent recurrences, eat slowly especially when you are consuming fish. Have plenty of water and swallow rice or bread occasionally to remove any possible obstructions.

If this doesn't help and if there is breathing difficulties then take medical advice immediately.

Cure for fish bone stuck in throat

For a fish bone or any other foreign body stuck in the throat swallow a lump of boiled white rice. This is gentle on the esophageal lining and works more often than not. Another gentle non-abrasive solution is swallowing small lumps of ripe bananas. Do not try to swallow unripe or partially ripe bananas. Only use over-ripe soft bananas. You can pick those with black markings on the skin. This does not indicate that the fruit is spoilt, only that it is ripe enough to be soft.

Under no circumstances irritate the lining further by trying to gouge out the bone yourself. Do not try to induce vomiting by ingesting any of the multiple noxious remedies suggested elsewhere. This serves no purpose other than to further irritate the delicate and soft tissue in the mouth and throat.

If the fish bone is still stuck even after trying all the non-invasive remedies suggested get professional medical help immediately. The longer you wait the higher the chances of infection setting in. This will necessitate more medical attention and consumption of prescription drugs that can be avoided by prompt attention to the problem.

For the future bear in mind that boneless fish is an option so try filets of fish like filet of catfish or salmon, where the likelihood of having a fish bone stuck in the throat is lower. Also various canned or tinned fish do not contain bones although it is best to check carefully before consumption.
