Erythrocin is an antibiotic that is generally administered to patients who are allergic to penicillin and are suffering from serious infections. The most common side effects of erythrocin are nausea and vomiting, abdominal pain and diarrhea. In a few rare cases, it may also adversely affect the central nervous system and cause nightmares and psychotic reactions.
Erythrocin may be used for treating rheumatic fever under proper medical supervision.
You may, however, follow a few home remedies to treat this condition. Since rheumatism commonly affects body joints, heart and the nervous system, you should try and prevent the body temperature from rising too high, as chances of the infection affecting your child adversely increase greatly under such circumstances. Apply a piece of cotton cloth soaked in cold water on the child’s forehead to keep down body temperature. Also, feed her with plenty of fruit juices to supply vital nutrients to the body as well as to flush out allergens that might be responsible for the fever. A diluted solution of equal portions of orange juice and water is especially useful in this regard. You should also apply hot and cold compresses alternately on the joints of the patient’s body to relieve swelling and pain. The patient should stay away from sour foods such as citrus fruits and curds these tend to aggravate body aches.
An effective home remedy for treating rheumatic fever is to grind a small dried piece of ginger with a little asafetida and add a tablespoon of milk to this mixture to form a paste. Now massage the body joints with this paste to relieve the symptoms of the fever. Simply chewing a small piece of raw ginger once a day also helps treat this condition. Ginger improves blood circulation and thereby relieves pain and inflammation. Massaging the aching joints with a mixture of essential oils such as rosemary and lavender is also known to reduce swelling and stiffness. For another remedy, boil a few dandelion leaves and small pieces of its root in a cup of water for five minutes and add some nettle leaves to the boiling water. Extract the solution and collect it in a container. Administer this decoction to the patient every day for a week. Dandelion has natural diuretic properties that cleanse the kidneys and the intestines, while nettle detoxifies the bloodstream and helps in strengthening the body’s natural immune system. A mixture of equal amounts of fenugreek, black cumin, carom and asparagus seeds ground together should also be given to the patient daily to treat rheumatic fever.

Nausea and vomiting, abdominal pain, diarrhea, hearing loss, abnormal heart beats (arrhythmias),disturbances of liver function, inflammation of the liver (hepatitis), yellowing of the skin and eyes (jaundice), and allergic skin reactions
These are just some of the side effects of Erythrocin. Drugs are rarely the best answer due to the side effects and potential for extreme damage to the body, especially the liver and kidneys as these organs are the filtering system for the body and are forced to filter out the chemicals.
For Rheumatic Fever, there are many herbal solutions that are much more effective than a chemical drug. These herbal treatments include Olive Leaf Extract, Silver, Oregano extract, Echinacea, Goldenseal, and Bilberry. Drinking several glassed of green tea, hot or iced, will have a healing effect. Chamomile tea will also be helpful if taken before bed. To reduce any pain, your daughter can take White Willow Bark, which is a natural form of aspirin. It is important that your daughter keep as healthy as she can while fighting this. Following a healthy diet, drinking plenty of water, and getting exercise will make a huge difference. Keeping her stress level to a minimum will help reduce flare ups as well.
