Treatment for sunburn Although exposure to sun is very beneficial for the skin and aids in the production of vitamin D, too much of anything can be a bad thing. What is too much can be very relative and differ from person to person. When you do expect to be exposed to the sun for a long time cover up with a cotton scarf or stole. You can invest in a good-quality sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or more to prevent the sunburn.
To soothe the burning skin use witch hazel solution. Moisten a square of gauze or cotton wool with the witch hazel and apply it liberally to the affected areas. To treat the skin at any time you wish carry an atomizer filled with witch hazel and spritz your face with it when you feel that the sun exposure is too much. You could try an all over cold compress by mixing rose water and witch hazel in cold water, soaking a hand towel in it and placing the wringed towel on your face. Applying crushed cucumber and rosewater paste to the burnt skin can also bring immense relief. You could also bathe your face in green tea solution. Bring a quart of water to boil and steep 2-3 bags of pure green tea in it. Allow the tea to cool by refrigerating it. After it has cooled completely wash your face in this solution before leaving home and as often as you like through the day.
