It's possible that your father has an allergic reaction to either the medication or something else he is taking in conjunction with the plavix.

Keep an eye on him to see if other symptoms show up or if they worsen.

For hives, rinse the skin with cool water, and massage Tea Tree Essential Oil into affected area three times daily.

Also, applying aloe vera gel or vitamin E oil to the affected area at least twice a day can benefit a lot.

As for the swollen hands, apply a cold compress to his hands, that should help lessen.

Have him avoid food like eggs, strawberries, berries, peanuts, nuts, chocolates, cheese, tomatoes, soy products, and shellfish for a while until it is determined what is causing the reaction.

Please speak to the concerned doctor about this. He will be the best person to guide you.
