Sore throats are caused mainly because of a viral or a bacterial infection that remains in the upper respiratory tract itself. The temperature difference within the upper and lower respiratory tract is responsible for the infection to take place. The upper portion is of lower temperature because of the air that passes through it.
This provides an ideal ground for the bacteria to survive and to grow.
Having a sore throat no doubt is a very painful experience and an irritating one as well, but there are many home remedies that could easily help you cope with the problem. There is not a single person on the planet who has not suffered from a sore throat at least once in his/her lifetime. This is not a major issue and could be solved with much ease. However if the child’s condition keeps worsening even with the use of these home remedies it is necessary that you call the doctor immediately.
Medical studies and experience have shown that a warm water gargle is one of the best ways to help remedy the condition of the sore throat. The reason for this is that the bacteria cannot live in warm and hot conditions. The warm water thus helps in killing the bacteria and relieving the throat of the infection. Adding a pinch of salt to the hot water makes the solution even more powerful in eliminating the virus from the throat and curing the condition. There is no particular time that you need to do the gargle, however having it done every night just before you go to sleep will help you greatly. Make sure that the water you use is warm and not very hot, lest you cause your tongue or esophagus to burn.
Garlic is another remedy to treat sore throats. Garlic is rich in allacin which is a natural antibiotic. Consumption of a bulb of garlic every day would speed up the healing process. Ginger tea consumed every evening or during the day would help to relax the inflamed muscles of the sore throat, while also killing the harmful pathogens. You could also slice some ginger and consume a little of it after your meals. This would not only serve to better the condition of your sore throat but also help in the process of digestion. Sore throats do not last for more than a week and should heal on its own. The condition may make you feel tired and lazy, it is however necessary to get back to normal as quickly as possible.
