A dental abscess is a condition that affects the mouth, face, jaw, throat and mostly commences as a tooth infection. Its advisable to treat an abscess tooth as quickly as possible so as to prevent more serious disease, such as cellulitis. There is a additional risk if you are suffering from diabetes, heart disease or an artificial valve.

Read the following to find some relief for the pain and swelling
  • Brush your teeth regularly to maintain oral hygiene, it not only averts gum disorders, but also offers some temporary relief. Flossing and warm water gargling in addition to over-the-counter mouth rinse could diminish some of the pain.
  • Avoid rubbing or massaging your gums, it will only aggravate the pain.

  • Ice acts as a natural anti-inflammatory, it brings down the swelling and serves as an anesthetic to numb the nerve endings. Place the ice pack rolled in a towel to your cheek or on the painful area
  • Put a tea bag on the gum abrasion or sore. The tannic acid present in tea leaves works as an astringent that helps to relieve pain.
