Sprain is commonly associated with inflammation and pain. Application of ice cubes in a plastic bag or packed in a towel, provides relief. This prevents swelling and reduces the strain on the muscles.
A hot bath with Epsom salts, especially to the area of sprain is helpful. A soft bandage can be used to keep the area invalid, till complete recovery. Over-the-counter drug and ointments provide relief; nevertheless, physician's guidance is required. Use a crutch for support, thereby reducing strain on the muscles.
