Skin problems like dark patches and dull skin are basically caused because of lack of moisture and underactive sebaceous glands. The smooth texture of the skin is provided by the sebum. So when the glands do not produce enough sebum, it makes the skin look dry and dull.

There are many reasons for the dryness of the skin. Maybe you do not consume enough essential fats or drink enough water everyday, resulting in underproduction of the sebum. Exposing the skin to harsh weather also makes it dry. To combat this, you should always wear sunscreen when you step out in the sun and wear a moisturizer during winters. You should also keep an eye on the kind of soap you use. Soaps that have chemicals and strong fragrances tend to dry the skin out. Use mild herbal soaps, preferably, that will also make your skin healthy. If your diet is high on fresh fruits and vegetables, it will provide the vitamins needed for healthy and glowing skin. Also, consume nuts and seeds to make up for the deficiency of fatty acids. Drink about 10 glasses of water every day, and get Vitamin E, especially, from green leafy vegetables.

To combat your problem of dry and dull skin, you first need to make it a habit to thoroughly cleanse and moisturize the skin every day. This will give an even tone to your skin. For your dark patches, you can rub lemon or apply fresh lemon juice on them. Let it sit for about 20 minutes and then wash it off. Applying a thick layer of yogurt and lime juice on the dark areas, keeping it on for about 20 minutes and then washing it off with water and soap will help lighten the skin. Apply aloe vera gel or break Vitamin E capsules and apply the oil on the dark patches. Let it stay overnight and wash it off in the morning. You can make a good moisturizer that you can use in order to obtain an even and healthy skin complexion. Take ¾ cup of rose water, one teaspoon vinegar, and ¼ teaspoon honey and glycerin each. After cleansing the affected areas, apply this mix as a moisturizer.
You can do away with the dead skin cells on the dark and dry patches of the skin to give it an even and glowing texture. For that, making your own scrub will help a lot. Take ¼ cup of yogurt and powdered walnut each. Scrub the skin with this and wash the pack and the dead skin off.

skin is only an indication of what we have inside our body. Check your liver function test as pigmentation could be due to liver imbalances.

also, make sure that you go to the toilet daily (ideally 3 times a day) but once a day would compare to none at all.

increase fluid intake, a lot of fresh frutis and vegetables. have acidophilus for normal flora of the colon. if you can do colon hydrotherapy, try as this will help you clean and you will see the difference in your skin condition.

Dark patches on skin arise due to insulin resistance. if your age is less than 20, home remedies:

Soak 1 tsp fenugreek seeds in 1 cup water overnight and take only water next morning empty stomach. Do not take anything for next 30 minutes at least.

Lick 1/2 tsp cinnamon powder in 1 tsp honey at beginning of meal.

You may apply cinnamon powder + honey mixture on patches at prominent places.

Amalaki+turmeric+fenugreek powders can be mixed together in equal proportion, add yogurt to make tooth paste consistency mixture and apply on dark spots.

You may need at least 6 weeks of treatment.
