The problem of acne is medically termed as acne vulgaris. The formation of acne is a major problem especially for teenagers as they are growing up. Acne is caused mainly because of two factors; firstly due to the hormonal imbalance during the years of puberty and, secondly, because of the skin condition.
Now that the reasons for acne are clear we can go ahead with the treatment of the same. Changes in the hormonal structure are inevitable and therefore should not be interfered with. These are natural processes of the body’s functioning and are best left untouched. However we can always take care of our skin to avoid and also remedy the problem of acne. Our facial skin is normally exposed to sunlight, dust, dirt, and a lot of bacteria. Oily skin has a greater tendency to attract a lot of debris, dirt and bacteria. Oily skin is due to the excess secretion of natural skin oil known as Sebum. Sometimes dead skin cells collect within the pores of the skin and cause a blockage or plug. The sebum is therefore trapped within the skin and as it starts to collect, the skin around it becomes inflamed. Bacteria within the skin feed on the sebum and start to multiply. This causes a large pimple that contains sebum, bacteria and dead cells. It is therefore important to keep your skin clean and well exfoliated to prevent blockages.
The best way therefore to avoid pimples, blackheads and acne is to keep washing your face regularly throughout the day as this would help keep it clean. You should wash your face with warm water before you go to bed as this will help to cleanse your skin of all excess sebum. You can also use steam to help cleanse your pores. Steam helps to lubricate the pores and also induces perspiration. This allows the insides of the pores to be ckleansed thoroughly of any dead skin cells that may be present. Besides this, garlic is an excellent remedy for treating acne. Garlic is a natural antibiotic and fights the bacteria from within the body. Therefore consume a lot of garlic during the day. Washing your face with an antiseptic soap will also help in treating the skin disorder. Lemon juice is known to be another very effective and widely used home remedy to treat acne and pimples. You could apply lemon juice to lighten the redness caused by acne. Care needs to be taken that the juice is not brought in contact with the eyes as the lemon juice is acidic in nature. Also avoid sun exposure when lemon juice is applied to your skin as this can cause darkening of your skin. Acne scars are difficult to get rid of, however, regular application of these home remedies helps combat the situation.
