Have brown patches on my legs and wondering what is causing them



Brown patches and spots on the body are generally caused due to prolonged sun exposure. However, factors such as hormonal imbalance, stress and anxiety, trauma and harsh chemicals could also lead to the formation of these patches. Consulting a dermatologist would be recommended in order to determine the exact cause of this problem. In the mean while there are several home remedies that you could implement to reduce the appearance of these patches.

Cucumber juice is an effective remedy for getting rid of patches like this. Blend one cucumber into a thick pulp and then squeeze the juice out of it. Apply a liberal layer of the juice on to the affected area and leave it on for 10-15 minutes. Once the application dries, rinse it off with chilled water. This remedy has to be performed 2-3 times a day, it will help in lightening the patches while also improving the texture of your skin. Cod liver oil and Vitamin E oil are both considered to be very effective when in comes to treating marks and scars. Massage a few drops of any of these oils onto the patches 2-3 times a day. If used in a consistent manner, this remedy will also yield positive results. Mix together 1-2 teaspoons of aloe vera gel with and 4-5 drops of Vitamin E oil. This mixture should be gently massaged onto the affected area several times a day. Massaging a few drops of peppermint oil on the affected area will also help in reducing the appearance of these patches.

Rose water has also been found to be useful for lightening such patches. Mix together equal proportions of rose water, lime juice and aloe vera gel. This mixture should then be applied onto the patches 2-3 times a day, on a regular basis, till you notice a visible difference in the appearance of the patches. Lemon juice in itself can also be used as a topical application for getting rid of this condition, as it acts a natural bleaching agent. Watermelon peel is another very effective remedy for treating brown patches. Rub a small piece of a watermelon peel onto the affected area and let the application air dry for a few minutes. Once dry, rinse it off with cold water. Always keep this area of the skin well protected from the harsh rays of the sun, make sure that you wear a sun screen when you step out into the sun.
