Chemical straightening treatments are the only way by which the hair can be permanently straightened as they alter the basic structure of the hair. These methods involve the use of many harsh chemicals that can lead to long-term damage to the hair. Other ways of straightening the hair involves the use of straightening irons or blow dryers which use heat to temporarily style the hair.
These need to be used daily to retain the straightened effect. All these methods are highly harsh on the hair and most likely result in dry, brittle and damaged hair. Hair fall and eventually hair loss can also occur from continuous use of such techniques. The best thing that you can do is embrace your curly hair and learn the correct ways to care for your type of hair.
The main problem that people have with curly hair is the dryness and frizziness. It is due to the frustration arising from these conditions that many people decide to go in for straightening treatments. But the good news is that this problem can be easily corrected with the right care. Curly hair requires a great deal more moisture than straight hair. Shampoos also tend to make curly hair very frizzy due to the sulfates that are present in them. You can opt for a very mild shampoo, preferably an herbal one that does not contain sulfate products. This will prevent the natural moisture of the hair from being stripped away during a hair wash. It is also very important to condition your hair after washing it. There are many conditioners that are especially suited for curly hair. You also need to drink plenty of water and take a balanced diet as your hair requires the right nutrients to remain healthy. Oil treatments are very effective in providing dry and frizzy hair with the moisture it needs. A nourishing hair mask can also be made with honey and egg yolk. You can also make a paste of fuller’s earth and buttermilk and apply to the scalp. Allow this to remain in the hair for half an hour and then wash it off with a mild shampoo. Mayonnaise is known to work well as a natural conditioning treatment and can be applied to the hair. You can warm up a cup of mayonnaise and once it becomes oily, take it off the heat. Apply it to the scalp and hair and leave it on for twenty minutes, before rinsing. It is best to stay away from all kinds of styling appliances and chemical treatments as these will only cause damage to the hair and make it more dry and unmanageable.
