Dandruff is a common problem in both the summer and the winter months. Although the exact causes of dandruff have not been ascertained, it is generally believed that it is linked to the increase in a certain type of fungus that occurs naturally in a person’s scalp. In order to get rid of this problem you will need to ensure that you cleanse your scalp regularly so as to get rid of the fungus.
There are several home remedies for dandruff that you can use to treat dandruff as well as prevent it.
Home remedies for dandruff are effective but you will have to make these remedies a part of your hair care regimen in order to get lasting results. Lemon juice and tomato juice are acidic in nature and are useful in inhibiting the growth and spread of this fungus. You can blanch and peel a small ripe tomato. In order to do this, you will need to boil a little water in a small saucepan. Place the tomato in a large spoon and immerse it in the boiling water for a minute. After that you should quickly plunge the tomato into a bowl of ice cold water. After about 30 seconds, you can take the tomato out of the cold water and peel it. The skin will come of very easily and you can then blend the tomato. Strain the tomato to obtain fresh tomato juice and then add the juice of half a lemon to it. Apply this juice to your entire scalp about an hour before you shower. Make sure that you massage it into your scalp as this will increase the amount of juice absorbed by your scalp. You can then wash your hair as usual. If you wish to you can also apply a little bit of this juice to your scalp after you have shampooed your hair and then rinse it off with cold water. This will allow trace amounts of the juice to remain in your scalp which will prevent the spread of the fungus. You can also mix 3 drops of tea-tree oil, 2 drops of Margosa oil and 1 teaspoon of olive oil. Add this to your shampoo just before you wash your hair. You can also add this blend of oils to your regular hair oil. Tea tree oil and Margosa oil have strong anti-fungal properties which help to get rid of dandruff.
