UTI or urinary tract infection is a relatively common problem and almost all women suffer from one at some point of time in their life. Women tend to get these infections more easily than men as they have a shorter urethra. Pregnant women too are at a greater risk as the uterus applies a lot of pressure on the bladder.
Women who use a diaphragm as a means of birth control are also susceptible to this condition. If you have had a UTI before, your chances of having one again are much higher. If you get UTIs very often, you should speak to a specialist as it is possible that there is an underlying factor that is making you more susceptible to these infections.
There are several home remedies for UTIs that you can use in order to alleviate your condition and help your body to get rid of the infection. Wash yourself with a warm saline solution in the morning and in the night before you go to bed. Salt is a mild antiseptic and will help to curtail the spread of the UTI. You can also use a medicated antimicrobial soap to get rid of any microbes that may be present in the entire genital area. It would also be wise to keep your pubic hair trimmed very short. Microbes often latch onto the strands of hair and can then increase and multiply exponentially. Do not shave yourself however as this will only serve to irritate the already sore and inflamed skin. In addition to this, you can chop a few cloves of garlic and add them to a cup of boiling hot water. All the water to undisturbed for some time and then use this water to rinse yourself. Garlic has strong anti-bacterial qualities and therefore this is a good topical treatment. You can also add a few cloves of garlic to your meals as this will help to fight the infection from within your body. Cranberry juice has been observed to be effective in treating this condition. This is because it does not allow the bacteria to thrive within the urinary tract but instead forces them to be flushed out of your system. This also ensures that the infection does not spread to your kidneys. If this condition worsens it can cause urethritis and then pyelonephritis. Pyelonephritis is a very serious condition as this means that your kidneys are infected. It is important to visit a doctor if you do not see significant changes within a few days.
